Welcome to your Western Governors University Principles of Accounting course!
We are excited to have you with us. Accounting is the language of business, and as you learn this new language, your eyes will be opened to a whole bunch of new possibilities. You are going to begin thinking thoughts you have never thought before. You are going to start doing things you have never done before.
“But,” you say, “accounting is about numbers, and I am not a numbers person.” If you can add, subtract, multiply, and divide, you are enough of a numbers person to complete this course. Accounting is about using numerical information to make better decisions. Leave it to the actual accountants to do the underlying “numbers” magic—this course is about using the resulting information to make more informed decisions.
Do you want to be a better decision maker? Do you want to use numbers to elevate your analysis? Do you want to be at the decision-making table when the numbers are discussed? Then this is the course for you!
This course is an introduction to how to USE accounting. It is not a course on how to DO accounting. If you find yourself bitten by the accounting bug and want to get more into the DOING side of accounting, don’t you worry. There are more courses down the accounting road if that is where your path leads.
But for now, let’s get started with how accounting is used in business to make better decisions!
